1971 Suzuki T250 Hustler

Recently entered the workshop for a “bit” of work. Looks real bad but turns out there is good news ahead. I first pull the carbs, right slide in stuck but the inners in the bowl are clean as, looked almost like new, thinking last ridden when we had real super petrol. refit carbs after freeing choke plungers and slide and checking there was no gunk inside the needles. Head to the electrics now to clean and adjust points. No ignition key so I hot wire it, remove old plugs and replace with new, check wiring to coils etc and lubricate with contact cleaner, sand some surface rust from the fuse holder, install new battery. Remove exhaust baffles to check them, they are clogged so leave them out for now. Two hours on and I am ready to try and start it, but no throttle cable, the inner is jammed, I have it soaking in a kero bath, so proceed to start it without. Turn up idle speed on both carbs, fit up remote fuel tank, let fuel fill the bowls and start to kick, choke on, it takes a bit of coaxing without a cable but finally after about 20 kicks it fires and revs high, I slowly turn down each idle screw until it idles without faulter. Back to the throttle cable soaking, I get it cleaned up and moving freely, fit it up and do some fine tuning/balancing of the carbs, One kick and it fires up again and revs freely and quickly on the throttle. Got to love it. Summary, motor is nice, bike has all original fittings and missing only the left side cover, all the electrics are working
